Makes you want to be a Cop

Lamborghini is making more money than every before, which has led them to be generous, giving the Italian Police a sweet new ride. As amazing as the Gallardo LP 560-4 is already, this is somehow even cooler. It almost makes me want to be a cop, at least in Italy.

Netflix Movie Marathon

Netflix hosted a movie marathon to promote using their services. To spice things up a little bit they have Richard Simmons jump in to give the couch potatoes a little work out.

Jerry and Bill Trying on Shoes

Microsoft has recruited Jerry Seinfeld to help them with a little marketing. The ad doesn't indicate what they are trying to sell other than the Microsoft brand itself and it is mildly funny.

Alpine Seeks to Refine Portable Navigation

With the PND-K3 Alpine has taken portable navigation on step further. In order to improve location accuracy, Alpine had added a sophisticated gyro to measure the vehicle’s direction and an accelerometer to monitor the vehicle’s speed. This means that the timing of directions is improved, meaning fewer problems.

The PND-K3 also has a touch screen with improved visual mapping. Six million points of interests had been added to the database, so you can enjoy your trips more. The text-to-speech is also more natural sounding, though I doubt it is up to K.I.T.T. standards yet.

Got to http://www.alpine-usa.com/ to learn more about Alpine products or to find an authorized retailer.

A Music Phone for Air Guitarists

Nokia has thrown a new music phone into the ring, the 5300 XpressMusic. Its sleek layout is definitely influenced by the iPhone, but you can also see Nokia's own styling cues in the buttons on the bottom. One clear difference is the use of a stylus for the touch screen. This is likely to increase accuracy at the expense of convenience. A lanyard complete with guitar pick, for all your air guitar needs, completes the package.

The 5300 XpressMusic is able to hold 1500 tracks on a 2GB microSD car. Wisely, Nokia has provided dedicated music buttons, thus allowing you to text or even take pictures while still controlling your music, so you never have to stop jamming out.

Value and Quality Collide: The Canon 50D

In the field of digital SLR's Canon standouts and the 50D is no exception. Canon's previous offerings in this price range have been impressive and have gradually evolved to the marvel that is the 40D, but the 50D is more than few minor changes.

Canon's line of digital SLR's are known for sharp, clear images and the 50D promises to improve this reputation with resolution taking a huge leap forward from the 40D's 10.1 mega pixel to 15.1 mega pixel. This alone would justify the purchase of this camera or of upgrading from the 40D, but Canon didn't stop there.

Image processing has been improved and allows for taking 6.3 pictures per second for up to 90 jpegs on special compact flash cards or 60 jpegs on regular cards.

The 40D offered a live view, using the LCD screen instead of the viewfinder, but use was limited. With the 50D the live view becomes much more functional and even includes face detection, which allows the camera to find people's faces in the frame and adjust the auto-focus and exposure specifically for the faces. LCD viewing has also been improved with a 3" screen that has 920,000 dots, four times more than the 40D.

One final feature of note that has been added is automatic exposure correction of images. Because the sensor size of most digital SLR's is different than the size of 35mm film they can use more of the lens, which means that the corners of images may not receive enough light and can be slightly darker than the rest of the image. If this occurs the 50D will automatically correct the exposure of the corners of the image so that they properly match that of the rest of the picture

With a recommended price of only $1400 the 50D receives a high recommendation from me, both for features and amazing image quality. In that price range you would be hard pressed to find a better camera. For more details click here.

The New Family Car

Have you seen the new Volkswagen adverts featuring Brooks Shields as a reporter dedicated to speaking the truth about people getting pregnant just to rationalize the purchase of a new Routan? If you haven’t you can check them out here.

Personally, I didn’t find it all that funny, but hey, that’s just me. Part of the problem was that the Routan is just a gussied up Dodge Caravan (insert comment about putting lipstick on a pig here), so the Germany engineering comments felt more like a lie or a least an extreme stretching of the truth. While I don’t think that the ad campaign really worked I have found a car for which it would not only work, but would probably be true, at least I would have a kid just to get one: the Lamborghini Estoque.

This gorgeous concept became my family car of choice the second I saw it (my previous choice would have been the Audi RS6, which actually sports the same V10 engine as the Lamborghini Gallardo). Admittedly, it is just a concept and may never see the light of day, but with Porsche set to produce the Panamera and Aston Martin contemplating the Rapide (both 4-doors) it might just make it off the motor show circuit and onto the streets. I certainly think the world would be a better place if it did, at least more fun…I mean family friendly.

By the way, if you want to see more pictures and read about the car click here.

Well Hello There

If you are wondering about the title of my blog, I use jive to mean anything. That is anything in the sense that it replaces words like stuff, or junk, or books, and so forth. The purpose of my posts are of course to discuss, or some might argue ramble, about the newest thing that has caught my eye, which I would like to say is discerning, but that probably depends on where you stand because a wide array of items will certainly attract my gaze. You may discover that certain types of items appear more frequently, such as cars, computers, and cameras, which are my favorite things to covet, though by no means the only ones. I hope that you enjoy my collection of jive and if you have anything that you think I have missed, by all means post a comment and tell me about the stuff you think I should pine away for. You might get a shout out and a post dedicated to you.
